Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an ever-growing field, with intersections in business, computer science, biology and so much more. UNT is likewise growing and connecting faculty, researchers, and students to each other to work on exciting new ideas.
The UNT Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Data Science (DS) is a university-wide, interdisciplinary hub that empowers faculty, students, and industry partners to advance applied AI and data-driven innovation. Our mission is to accelerate AI and DS research, expand education and workforce pathways, and translate emerging technologies into impactful, real-world applications.
We unite experts from across UNT—engineering, science, information, business, health, liberal arts, and the arts—to build an agile ecosystem where discovery, collaboration, and innovation thrive.
Together, we tackle regional and global challenges through ethical, responsible, and human-centered AI.
Our Mission
To establish an interdisciplinary institute that:
Applied advanced AI and data science research through competitive, externally funded projects.
Builds a modern AI/DS workforce with hands-on learning, mentorship, and training pathways.
Co-develops industry-aligned solutions, ensuring research translates into practical, high-impact applications.
Expands AI infrastructure and resources to support innovation across UNT.
Creates two-way connections between academia and industry, fostering problem-solving partnerships.
Drives regional and global impact through ethical, data-driven solutions.
