The AI & Data Science Semester Project Competition invites UNT students from all disciplines to tackle real-world challenges using creative data science and artificial intelligence solutions. Whether you’re passionate about machine learning, computer vision, predictive modeling, NLP, or analytics for social good, this competition gives you a platform to showcase your expertise, build your portfolio, and compete for recognition and prizes.

What Is the Semester Project Competition?

This competition is a semester-long, team-based challenge that showcases outstanding student work in AI and data science. Participants work in interdisciplinary teams to produce innovative projects that demonstrate:

  • Technical mastery

  • Original problem framing

  • Data-driven solutions

  • Real-world relevance

At the end of the semester, teams present their work in a public showcase where judges evaluate submissions based on creativity, impact, technical execution, and presentation.

How It Works

 

Form a Team
Recruit teammates with complementary skills such as domain knowledge, programming, data analysis, design, or communication.
Identify a Problem
Choose a real-world challenge that can be addressed using AI and data science techniques.
Build Your Solution
Work iteratively, applying best practices in experiment design, modeling, and system evaluation.
Present Your Work
Submit your final project and deliver a polished presentation at the semester showcase.
